What are the Philips External Hard disk file limits?

Published on 2017-02-28

All external hard disks have a file size limitation. Microsoft Windows has limitations for each drive format. In Windows, the following format limitations apply:

External Hard disk limits

  • Fat32 has a 4 GB file size limit, this is the size of a Gigabyte
  • NTFS has a 2 TB file size limit, this is the size of a Terabyte

For FAT 32, this means that files larger then 4GB cannot be copied onto the external hard disk. If you need to copy or store files larger than 4GB, we recommend formatting or converting the drive to the NTFS format.

Note: NTFS is not supported on Windows 98 (SE) and Windows Millennium.

The information on this page applies to the following models: SPD5110CC/00 , SPD5110CC/05 , SPD5115CC/05 .
