My Philips Avent electric breast pump does not express enough milk

Published on 17 May 2024
If your Philips Avent Essential electric breast pump expresses little or no milk, begin by ensuring that the pump is assembled correctly. Ensure that the silicone diaphragm, cap and massage cushion are fitted securely to the pump body, with a perfect seal. The silicone tube should be connected firmly with no twists. If the air pressure in your region is too low, it may affect the suction.

Refer to the tips below if your breast pump is charged and assembled correctly but doesn't express enough milk.

Useful tips
To express as much milk as possible using your Philips Avent breast pump, there are a few things you can try:
  • Pump in a calm, comfortable place where you won't be hurried or interrupted.
  • Having your baby with you, or a photo or video of them nearby to look at, can encourage the flow of milk.
  • Warmth and relaxation are important to expressing milk. Take a warm bath or shower before you pump, or gently massage your breast with a warm towel.
  • Reposition the pump from time to time to encourage milk flow, and practice to find the best technique for you.
