Quick option shaving img

1. The quick option: shaving

The first go-to for most of us, shaving is a popular method to remove body hair, as it is quick, simple and inexpensive.

With traditional manual razors, however, it’s hard to avoid nicks and irritation, especially in delicate areas. You can get a smooth and more comfortable shave by using an electric shaver like the SatinShave Wet & Dry shaver. It’s designed with hypoallergenic foil to prevent irritation and rashes – and with an anti-slip grip and battery operation, you can use it in the shower or the bath for ultimate comfort.

Pros: With an electric shaver, shaving is quick and gentle on the skin.

Cons: Hairs reappear quickly: armpit hair grows 0.3 mm per day on average.

Epilating, mess-free option img

2. Epilating: mess-free and long-lasting

Epilating pulls hairs out from the root, making it a longer-lasting solution than shaving – but also less comfortable. The best epilation method for a comfortable experience is to epilate on wet skin, either in or directly out of a warm shower. The Philips Advanced Wet & Dry epilator is designed with an anti-slip grip, perfect for use in the shower or bath as well as for dry use. Its unique ceramic discs remove the finest hairs – even those four times shorter than waxing.

Plus, with the facial area and delicate area cap attachments on the Advanced epilator, you can easily remove hair from any area of your body. The Satinelle Essential epilator also includes a sensitive cap for underarm and bikini areas, and two speed settings to remove thinner and thicker hairs which allow you to easily tailor it to the best epilation method for you.

Your skin can stay smooth for two to three weeks, with the regrowth only visible for a short time between treatments. Epilators are more of an investment than shavers, but the thorough and long-lasting results give you value for your money.

Pros: Enjoy two to three weeks of perfectly smooth skin.

Cons: Epilation can sometimes cause ingrown hairs, although these are significantly reduced by thoroughly exfoliating before and after epilating.

Tip: Dead skin cells can sometimes clog pores and block the regrowth of hairs, causing ingrown hairs. A simple way to avoid this is to prepare your skin for epilating by exfoliating first.

Satisfying waxing img

3. Satisfying waxing

Like epilating, waxing removes the hair from the root, making it a thorough and long-lasting method. Of all the body hair removal methods however, waxing can be the most painful. Typically, a liquid wax is applied to your skin.  Then, once it has set, it is pulled off in one swift motion. But thanks to a large choice of cold and hot wax, treatment at home is relatively easy. A treatment at the beauty salon is more comfortable than a home treatment, but also more expensive.

With the right wax, this depilation method works on any area of the body – but the bikini area might put your pain threshold to the test. Usually, hair grows back after two to three weeks.

Pros: Satisfyingly smooth skin for two to three weeks.

Cons: Painful and, if the more comfortable salon-option is chosen, fairly costly.

Sweet sugaring img

4. Sweet sugaring: the less painful alternative

Body sugaring is a similar process to waxing. A warm paste of sugar and citric acid is applied to the skin and, after cooling down, is then removed with a strip. Unlike waxing, the hair is pulled out in the direction of hair growth, making the experience a little more comfortable.

A sugaring treatment can be used on any area of the body. It’s cheaper to do it at home, but it can also be a little difficult to get right – both when it comes to making the paste and the process itself. It’s easier to get it done in a salon, but this can be costly. That said, this is one of the more long-lasting depilation methods, with regrowth after around two weeks.

Pros: A long-lasting hair removal that is more comfortable than waxing.

Cons: Higher costs due to salon treatment.

5. Long-lasting laser body hair removal

Laser treatment is costly, but one of the best ways to remove body hair on a long-term basis, particularly if you have dark hair and fair skin. It damages the hair follicles, significantly slowing down the regrowth of hair. However, it is not as effective for removing fair hair.

Lasering is relatively comfortable, but it also takes several sittings in the salon to achieve the best results. Be sure to ask your salon about any risks involved in the treatment.

Pros: In the long-term, hair growth slows down.

Cons: A very heavy investment in terms of cost and time commitment.
