When it’s your local community hospital, playing your part in keeping it running is a point of pride. Philips District Service Manager, John Stabler explains how he sees his role and his sense of responsibility in taking care of medical equipment at Peterborough Regional Health Center.

Personal story of John Stabler, District Service Manager, Peterdborough, CA

At-a-glance:

  • Maintenance with a personal connection
  • Taking care of systems across departments
  • Partnering with purpose for +10 years: Part of the team, part of the community

Maintenance with a personal connection

For District Service Manager, John Stabler, keeping equipment and systems running at Peterborough Regional Health Center is more than a career. It’s a calling that feels very personal.

He explains, “From the moment I walk into the building, I see people I know. Family, friends. It doesn’t feel like coming into work. It feels like coming into a special place where I have history. I was born in the hospital previously on site. Both my kids – I have a 5 year old daughter and a 2 year old son – were born here. My sense of responsibility is always at an all time high because I know that at some point a member of my family will need the piece of equipment that I’m working on.”

Taking care of systems across departments

This personal perspective adds to the commitment John brings every day to his role servicing and maintaining the equipment and systems at this important community hospital in Ontario, Canada. As the primary field service engineer, he brings his technical and people skills to keep systems running across departments, noting that every department has different requirements for him.

Partnering with purpose for + 10 years: Part of the team, part of the community

It’s a longstanding partnership of shared purpose that sees John very much part of the team and part of the community. Indeed, the partnership between Philips and MacKenzie Health Center – of which Peterborough Regional Health Center is part – has been in place for over 10 years and is still going strong.

Fast response times from a valued member

The responsibility and commitment John brings to his role is typical of Philips field service engineers who spend their days servicing the needs of our healthcare customers and doing their best to ensure that downtime is not an option. It’s a frontline response that is recognized by Peterborough Regional Health Center. Alana Basso, Manager of the Cardiac Care Lab at Peterborough Regional Health Center explains: “The relationship we have with Philips Services and our field service engineer, John, is vital to the operations of our department. So too are the online tools and direct phone calls. Having someone live so close makes maintenance very accessible and timed responses are very quick. John is always professional but friendly and you can call on him any time. He’s pleasant, resourceful and part of our community, part of our hospital. He’s a familiar face when I run in to him and we can chat about work and every day life.”

And it’s a relationship that, like effective maintenance, doesn't stop. As John says, “I’ll drop in and say ‘hi’. Check everything is running smoothly and check that there aren’t any calls open.“

The relationship we have with Philips and our field service engineer, John, is vital to the operations of our department. Having someone live so close makes maintenance very accessible and timed responses are very quick.
