Wednesday, April 19, 2017, India: Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) today introduced the Dream Series range of sleeping aids to help improve the sleep therapy experience for people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The Philips Dream Series is the latest suite of Philips sleep and respiratory solutions that connect and support the patient, clinician and homecare provider to enhance patient care and quality of life.
With India suspected to have around 30-35 million sleep apnea patients, Philips Healthcare tries to educate people about extreme symptoms like unwarranted daytime sleepiness and trouble in concentrating, impact on productivity and overall quality of life. Not only does this affect general lifestyle patterns but chronic sleep disorders can also lead to graver health issues including cardiac arrests. Studies have shown the relationship between sleep apnea and cardiovascular diseases, with people having severe sleep apnea being more likely to develop congestive heart failure.
Philips Healthcare India has already established over 400 sleep labs in association with leading sleep specialists across the country with about 50 sleeps labs in Uttar Pradesh, which adds on to Philips’ long-standing commitment to drive awareness around OSA and other sleep disorders.
Mr. Harish R, Head of Sleep & Respiratory Care at Philips says, “It is expected that by 2025 around 70-80 million of India’s population will suffer from Diabetes and Hypertension. A major concern is that around 40% - 48% of these patients will also suffer from Sleep Apnea. In such a scenario, there is a critical need for effective treatment and management of Sleep Apnea to enable people to live healthy lives. With the Dream Family, we're aiming to address all of the factors facing those living with OSA by providing a comprehensive and connected sleep solution, including a revolutionary new mask design. ”
Dr A.K. Singh, Pulmonologist, Regency Hospital, Kanpur says, “The Dream Family products are designed in a way to help patients sleep better and feel like they are not wearing a mask. DreamWear directs airflow through the sides of the mask frame so patients can sleep comfortably in any position with more freedom to move in bed. Most importantly, it also has a pleasing appearance which will work well with patients”
