BPA, or Bisphenol A, is a substance that is used in the lining of many plastic products. Studies have linked usage of BPA with obesity, attention deficit disorders, along with hormone disruption that may cause behavioural disorders, reproductive health issues, and diabetes. Infants, children and foetuses, are thought to be at increased risk due to their smaller sizes and higher absorption rates.
While the ill effects of BPA are relatively well known, the most-common substitute, BPS, or Bisphenol S may be just as bad. Just like BPA, BPS has been linked with endocrine disorders, including certain forms of cancer, heart problems, diabetes, behavioural disorders, asthma and obesity. Due to the relative lack of awareness, especially compared to BPA, many baby products still contain BPS.
While the severity of the risk is still under debate, Philips Avent believes that any amount of risk to our precious ones is too high – and that is why none of our products have any BPA or BPS whatsoever, guaranteed.
