The need for home healthcare services in India has been growing at a rapid speed. At a recent event, Philips launched the Philips Home Care, which is a 100% subsidiary of Philips India Limited. It focuses on technology-enabled home healthcare services for chronic disease management.
Speaking on the need for home care, Priyank Agarwal, CEO of Philips Home Care said, “Around 100 million Indians suffer from chronic respiratory disease (CRD), from which, about 30 million have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder). The disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality , coupled with recurrent hospitalization. So for these patients, there is a need for periodic monitoring and specialized care at home with home ventilation and home oxygen therapy . This is where Philips Home Care plays a vital role, by offering clinically validated care plans, executed by our full-time medical professionals at the patient's home, under continued supervision of the patient's own physician. In a pilot done by Philips in the United States in the year 2015 with Banner Health, home healthcare services reduced re-hospitalization by 45% and cost of care by 27%.“
Currently , they provide two types of home care services -Respiratory and Critical ICU care. The Respiratory care includes high-quality, affordable respiratory management solutions, which are customized by expert physicians to suit the specific needs of patients.Similarly, they also provide Critical ICU care to help patients transitioning from the hospital to home environment to recover faster.
