Common misconceptions about Critical Care At Home

When patients are recovering from an illness, they need critical care which will play an important role in their full recovery. Critical care services are required so that the patient is not burdened or fatigued due to lack of physical & mental strength and can get back on track to recovery easily. At times, patients recovering from a critical illnesses require services such as regular monitoring, physical therapy and supervision, etc., which can be conveniently available at home under supervision of a trained therapist, who understands the needs of patient. Still, there are several misconceptions surrounding critical care at home. Let’s try and address some of them here:

It is not proper medical care

This is a common myth that revolves around critical care at home. Some people still feel that medical care at home is not as up to them mark as that of a hospital. In fact, the only difference in such cases is that there is change of environment which makes the patient feel comfortable and patients really do show rapid progress when they feel at ease. Critical care services and setup such as professional monitoring systems, trained therapists and constant updates from and to the physicians can be setup at home without compromising on patient’s health. So next time, if the doctor sees fit, the patient can be shifted back at home without any worries.

Greater risk is involved at home

Risk involved in critical care at home is the same as risk involved in a medical facility. Change of place will not make the patient’s health worse. In fact, care at home might prove to be twice as useful for recovery since the patient will be with his/her loved ones. Emotional support majorly affects the progress towards a healthy life meaning that patients can recover better when they are taken care of at home instead of a medical institute or hospital.

Therapists are not trustworthy

Another misconception is that patients are in the hands of an individual who is not from the family and hence may not care as much for the patient. Though it is completely natural to be worry about your loved ones, you can be rest assured that they will be in safe hands. The Philips critical care team is composed of qualified professionals from the industry with commendable records.
