A red or amber light is blinking on or under my Philips Iron’s handle

If a red light is flashing in your Philips Steam Iron, find out here what that means and what you can do about it.

Irons with dial: red light on or below the handle

Red light on the handle: the automatic shut-off function is on
Your iron (model with dial) is designed to automatically shut off after 30 seconds in horizontal position and after 8 minutes in vertical position. When this automatic shut-off function is activated, a red light will blink on your iron’s handle.

To solve this, pick the iron up or move it slightly. This will deactivate the automatic shut-off function and then the red light will stop blinking.

Red (or amber) light below the handle: heating up
When your Philips Iron (model with dial) is heating up, a red or amber light will blink under its handle. This is normal.

It will stop blinking when the iron has reached the requested temperature.

Irons without dial: red light on the handle

Red light on the handle: descaling reminder

If you own a Philips Iron without temperature dial, and a red light is blinking on the handle, this means the iron needs descaling.

Please find here all descaling information for your Philips Steam Iron or Steamer
