Why Philips are No.1

Since 1956 when Philips produced its first electric iron we have been perfecting the garment care experience. We put 200 prototypes through 5,000 hours of testing for every new product launch! And before we bring an iron to the market, we put them into homes for eight weeks of real-life testing.

We have now sold over 400 million irons worldwide, tackled creases and wrinkles for over 174 billion hours, therefore every 2.5 seconds someone in the world choses a Philips iron.

Easier, faster and safer ironing

Not only is it about the iron you use, it's important that you know how best to use it.

Whether you love or loath it we want to help you power through your ironing pile simply and easily.

Tips and tricks

for keeping your garments looking their best

  • If you are ironing clothing with stickers and prints, just iron them on the opposite side and place another piece of material on top for extra protection.
  • When ironing linen and cotton dresses or shirts, after washing let them dry on a hanger to limit the amount of creases. A slightly damp garment can also make it easier.
  • Do not hang sweaters: they are too heavy for hanging and the shoulders get stretched and distorted. Rather fold them easier.
  • No wire hangers! Hangers that the dry-cleaner sends you home with should be thrown away. Invest in wooden hangers that help clothes retain their shape.
  • To prevent shine/print on your clothes, avoid ironing over uneven surfaces or use a piece of cotton over the surface during ironing.
  • When hanging trousers it's worth investing in clip hangers' to hang them by the waist and clip them in a discreet spot that won't show when worn. You will also retain the trousers perfectly ironed crease!

How to maintain your iron?

Which water should I use?

We recommend to use normal tap water in our irons.
However, in water there are some impurities that overtime  can damage the iron . Therefore cleaning your appliance is very important to maintain it in great shape.

Other alternative is to use demineralized water – this water is chemically treated to remove the impurities and you can buy it at your supermarket. You will still need to clean your appliance from time to time. You can use specific products like our IronCare to demineralize water at home.

What are Philips solutions for anti-calc?

To ensure you can enjoy your Philips iron for a long as possible, we offer innovative and effective anti-calc solutions.

Anti-calc tablets

They are in the water tank and release chemicals to prevent calc particles from forming into a solid lump in the soleplate.

Self Clean

During a self clean the soleplate is heated up to the maximum temperature. When activating the self clean button, the water flows rapidly in the soleplate and the termic shock causes the scale to break. Shaking the iron during the process helps to remove even more scale.

IronCare

The IronCare water descale filter is a proven solution to calc. It demineralizes 99% calc* from tap water in order to extend the lifetime of your iron by up to 4x longer.** The pure water helps maintain a consistent steam flow while ironing and prevents calc residue being left on your clothes. Suitable for any iron brand.

* 8 Up to 25 litre of water at 8.4˚dH
** tested on Philips GC5000 series steam iron with 16.8˚dH water, referring to calc effect only
