Philips Augments Its Leadership In Lighting With New LED Solutions And Customer Wins

Goa, India – Philips Lighting, the leading lighting company in India, today reinforced its leadership in lighting by unveiling its next generation LED lighting solutions, including the LED-based solar street lighting range for Indian roads, solar-powered LED rechargeable light and new additions to the LED professional solutions portfolio and LED consumer bulb range. Philips also showcased new customer wins for its LED lighting solutions across industries such as infrastructure, hotels, offices and retail. These announcements illustrate the significance of LED lighting technology for the company’s robust growth plans.

New LED-based Solar lighting solutions:

Philips’ first LED-based solar-powered street lighting solution has been developed indigenously at the Philips R&D center in Noida to suit Indian operating conditions. The advanced lighting solution will manage effective conversion of solar energy absorbed during the day and effective harvesting back from the battery. With India receiving solar energy equivalent to more than 5,000 trillion KWh per year 1, use of solar lighting solutions can result in massive energy savings that will in turn reduce the impact on the environment. The digital capabilities of LEDs allow for tremendous customization in terms of light output to provide optimum light coverage as per the Indian Road Lighting Standards. This will make the solution applicable for urban areas as well as off-grid locations in rural areas.

For home users, Philips offered a sneak preview of a portable solar-powered LED rechargeable light. The product is currently under development and will be launched soon and will offer features and functions such as multi-level illumination control.

 

LED Consumer Bulb range:

Philips introduced new additions to the LED consumer bulb range that was launched last year. The LED bulb makes the latest LED technology available to home users in India. The portfolio now includes the 5W and 7W retrofit bulb, in both Warm White and Cool White colours. Philips also confirmed that the 9W bulb will soon be added to this range to offer a good choice to the consumers. This complete range of LED bulbs will enable millions of Indian households to switch to the Future of Lighting and save on electricity bills and replacement costs, all with the highest quality standards. The retrofit LED bulbs are competitively priced, and given that the life of the LED bulb is over 15 years and that there is 80% energy saving vis-à-vis standard incandescent bulbs, they offer a quick payback and great value for money.

 

LED Professional Lighting Solutions Portfolio:

Philips is a pioneer in LED technology in India and is constantly innovating to help its customers achieve a seamless transition from analog lighting to digital LED lighting. Philips Lighting is now looking at aggressive strategic portfolio expansion to offer lighting solutions that are technologically advanced and at the same time, localized to suit the Indian market and conditions. The new launches include LED-based luminaires for landscape lighting applications such as post-top, wall-mount, step lighting and LED markers. For office lighting and retail lighting, new LED-based down lighters are now available for the customers to choose from.

 

Increased Customer Momentum for LED Lighting

Philips also announced that it has gained significant market momentum for its professional LED lighting solutions with multiple new customers in various industries including roads and infrastructure, hospitality, offices and retail, and city beautification. Some of these new wins include, ITC and Radisson hotels, Road lighting in Jaipur Mahindra World City and Kolkata Municipal Corporation, McDonalds restaurant and Cognizant, Infosys and IOTL offices.
